<strong>A List of Low Carbohydrate Foods</strong></p>
<p>A list of low carbohydrate foods includes certain vegetables, fruits and nuts. Green vegetables containing very low amount of carbohydrates are acceptable. Some of the vegetables included in low carbohydrate diet are spinach, lettuce, asparagus, mustard greens, turnip greens, beet greens, kale, parsley, collard, bok choy, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, celery, red, green or Chinese cabbage, zucchini, sweet or hot peppers, yellow summer squash, beets, carrots, kohlrabi, red or yellow onions, turnips, watercress, radish, pumpkin, avocados and Brussels sprouts. The list of low carbohydrate foods also includes some kind of fresh fruits such as bananas, melons, tomatoes, figs, limes, lemons, apples, plums, kiwis, all kinds of berries, oranges, pears, grapefruit, tangerines, pineapple and fresh coconut or unsweetened coconut milk.</p>
<p>Eggs, meat, fish and dairy products such as butter, cheese and cream are acceptable in low-carb diet. Fresh fish, a rich source of proteins, is also recommended in the low-carb diet. The fish that are included in the list of low carbohydrate foods are wild-caught salmon, Alaskan halibut, orange roughy, sardines, anchovies, trout, Chilean sea bass and mackerel. Shellfish such as crab, shrimp, clams, lobster and oysters can be consumed once a week. Meats such as lean red meat and wild game (pheasant, rabbit, deer, goose and duck) are acceptable once or twice a week. Grass-fed beef, which is not treated with antibiotics or hormones, and internal organs of goat such as heart, liver, bone marrow and pancreas, can be consumed once or twice in a week.</p>
<p>Some herbs, flavorings and condiments such as ginger, fresh garlic, cinnamon and turmeric are acceptable in low-carb diets. You can also use some anti-inflammatory culinary spices and anti-oxidants in low-carb cooking, e.g. dill, oregano, sage and thyme. The oils including canola, omega-3 fatty acids, walnut oil and flaxseed are included in low carbohydrate diets. Some other foods that are low in carbohydrates are soy foods, soy protein powders, brown rice and rice protein powder, seeds or fresh olives and tea, especially green tea.<br />

<p>A Low Carb Dieter&#8217;s Guide To Chinese Food</p>
<p>Chinese food fans, take heart. It&#8217;s true that many of the popular Oriental dishes are heavy on carbs: sumptuous fried rice served with thick sauces, noodles brewed in a savory soup, sticky buns, and flavorful stews thickened by starch.</p>

<p>For those trying to stay on the South Beach or Atkins diet, your favorite Chinese restaurant suddenly becomes a trap of temptations. Even outside of the standard rice and noodles, so many of the dishes have a lot of sugar and starch. This doesn&#8217;t mean that you&#8217;ll never step foot into a Chinese restaurant again. You just have to be prepared&#8230;and informed.</p>
<p>Before you go to a Chinese restaurant, make a conscious decision about how strict your carbohydrate count will be. If you&#8217;re in the first phase of the South Beach Diet, or the Induction Phase of the <a title="Atkins Low Carb Diet" href="http://www.good-low-carb-diets.com/category/atkins-low-carb-diet">Atkins diet</a>, then even the cornstarch in the sauce is a big no no. However, both diets have a less restrictive phase that lets you take in a little carbs.</p>
<p>So you know how much carbohydrates you can take; now how do you stay within those limits? Chinese food actually has its own regional variations, so depending on the cook&#8217;s style, even one particular dish can have different levels of sugar and carbs from restaurant to restaurant.</p>
<p>As a rule of thumb, though, you&#8217;ll want to avoid the fried rice or steamed rice, the noodles, the wontons, the egg rols and breaded meats, and the sweet sauces. These include the sweet and sour, and the plum or orange-based sauces used for duck. Hoisin and oyster sauces, often used to flavor vegetable dishes, also contain high amounts of sugar.</p>
<p>You should also know that Chinese food uses cornstarch to thicken the sauces. Approximately one to two tablespoons of cornstarch are used in each platter, and this contains about seven to 14 grams of carb. Water chestnuts, another staple in Chinese food, contains 3 grams of carbohydrates. Spicy sauces will also contain sugar to balance the flavor.<br />

Now you know what to avoid, but what can you order? Look for clear and thin soups, and the steamed meats and tofus. If you want to order something with sauce, ask for those that are a little watery (like Moo Goo Gai, curry chicken, Schezuan prawns, or black bean sauces). If you can&#8217;t skip on a favorite, you can also ask the waiter to do without the corn starch altogether, since it doesn&#8217;t affect the flavor, and is only used for consistency, or serve it in a separate bowl. Another trick is to remove the wrappers, and eat just the meat. That&#8217;s where all the flavor is, anyway.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s also a good idea to have a small snack before going to the Chinese restaurant. Don&#8217;t go there hungryyou&#8217;ll binge, and lose about all sense of self-control as you survey the mouthwatering selections in the menu. You&#8217;re there to taste the flavor, not fill up. Another suggestion is to take small amounts. By limiting your portions, even if you take a little carbohydrates, it&#8217;s not enough to completely railroad your dieting attempts. (Of course, this is assuming you are already in the diet phase that lets you moderate carbohydrate intake.)</p>

<p>The term &#8216;low carbohydrate diet&#8217;, also referred to as &#8216;low glycemic diet&#8217;, &#8216;controlled carbohydrate diet&#8217; or &#8216;reduced carbohydrate diet&#8217;, basically encompasses the ideas propounded by several books, including Atkins, Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, Sugar Busters, Protein Power, South Beach Zone, and so on. All of which advocate the restricting the consumption of carbohydrate-rich foods. While some of these diets restrict the overall amount of carbohydrate, others concentrate on reducing certain kinds of foods, usually those that are high in sugar and starch. And because starch is turned into sugar in the body, most low carbohydrate diet experts do not differentiate between the two. Other low carb diets focus on the glycemic aspect of the food consumed. One of the most popular low carb diets is the &#8216;No White Foods&#8217; concept, which simply means doing away with potatoes, white rice, white flour, and sugars.</p>
<p> Some of the advantages of a <a href="http://www.good-low-carb-diets.com/the-truth-about-low-carb-diet-foods" title="low fat low carb diets">low carbohydrate diet</a> are: sustained loss of weight; the stabilization of blood sugar levels, which is particularly important for people with diabetes; a reduction in insulin levels; an improvement in the blood lipid profile, or the lowering of harmful cholesterol; a reduction of blood pressure; a reduction of hunger between meals, which helps to prevent snacking on hi-carb or sugary foods; and increased energy.</p>
<p> So, here are a few low carbohydrate diet recipes, which are delicious, healthy, and will help you to stay on track on your low-carb weight loss program:</p>

<p> 12 oz chicken breasts<br /> 1 tbsp butter<br /> 3 ham slices, thin<br /> 1/2 cup cheddar<br /> 1/2 cup cream<br /> salt<br /> pepper<br /> garlic powder<br /> 1/4 tsp liquid smoke</p>
<p> Pound the chicken, and then saut it in butter until done. Add the slices of ham into the pan and warm them. Then, remove both the chicken as well as the ham. Next, melt some butter in the pan, and add the liquid smoke, seasonings and cream, and then the cheese. Stir until the cheese melts. Place a slice of ham on each piece of chicken and pour the sauce over the top.</p>
<p> <strong>Szechwan Shrimp</strong></p>
<p> 12 oz shrimp<br /> 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced<br /> 1/2 tsp guar gum<br /> 1/2 cup salsa<br /> 1/4 cup cinnamon syrup, sugar free<br /> 2 tbsp soy sauce<br /> 2 tbsp dijon mustard<br /> 2 tbsp peanut butter<br /> 1/4 tsp ginger<br /> Some vegetable oil</p>
<p> Except for the mushrooms and the shrimp, mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Heat some oil in a pan and saut the shrimp in it, then add the mushrooms. When the shrimp is almost done, add in the sauce and stir until done.</p>
<p> <strong>Pot Roast</strong></p>
<p> 2 lb chuck pot roast<br /> 2 cans beef broth<br /> 3 tbsp garlic, minced<br /> 1/2 cup onion, chopped<br /> 1 cup red wine<br /> 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce<br /> 2 tsp basil<br /> 2 tsp oregano<br /> pepper<br /> 1 tsp liquid smoke<br /> Some oil</p>
<p> Brown the pot roast using a Dutch oven placed on a stovetop, adding a little oil if required. Remove it from the pan, and saut the onions in the oil until they turn brown. Put the beef back into the pot along with the rest of the ingredients, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for about 3-4 hours, until done.</p>
<p> <strong>Garlicky Turnips</strong></p>
<p> 3 cups turnip, diced<br /> 2 cloves garlic, minced<br /> 3 tbsp melted butter<br /> 1/4 cup heavy cream<br /> salt<br /> pepper</p>
<p> Cook the cubes of turnip along with the cloves of garlic in boiling water for about 15 minutes. Then, drain it out. Use a food processor to mash the turnips, and add the butter, cream, salt and pepper.</p>
<p> <strong>Garlicky Baby Spinach</strong></p>
<p> 1 bag of baby spinach<br /> 2 cloves garlic, minced<br /> 1 tbsp olive oil</p>
<p> Heat some oil and saut the garlic in it, then add the spinach, tossing until it is covered in the oil and garlic mixture and starts becoming soft.</p>
